Indianapolis to host 2025 WNBA All-Star Game with Fever leading league’s surge in popularity

Indianapolis will host the WNBA All-Star Game for the first time, in 2025.

Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston were both selected to the 2024 WNBA All-Star team.

Indianapolis will host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game for the first time at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on July 19, the league announced Wednesday.

This summer’s game featured the All-Star team against the U.S. Olympic team and was played in front of a sellout crowd of 16,407 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. A television audience of 3.44 million watched the All-Stars win 117-109 on July 20 in the most-watched WNBA All-Star Game.

“The city of Indianapolis and the entire state of Indiana have such an incredible and enduring passion for the game of basketball, making the region the perfect host to celebrate the WNBA and the game’s greatest stars,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said.

West Brom sign Serbia midfielder Racic on loan

West Bromwich Albion have brought in midfielder Uros Racic on a season-long loan from Italian Serie B club Sassuolo, their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old 6ft 4in Serbian international scored once in 23 appearances for Sassuolo last season as they were relegated from Serie A.

After losing to Southampton in the Championship play-off semi-finals in May, Albion have taken four points from their first two games of the new campaign.

Of the seven signings made by Baggies boss Carlos Corberan prior to the start of the season, only Torbjorn Heggem. has so far started a league game

In demand French rising star Leo Barre signs huge new deal – report

France fullback Leo Barre has signed a new deal with Stade Francais to keep him in Paris until 2029, according to French outlet Midi Olympique. 

The four-cap France international, who turned 22 earlier this week, was being eyed by Ronan O’Gara  over a potential move to La Rochelle.

Weston McKennie in talks to extend Juventus stay – source

United States midfielder Weston McKennie  is in talks over a new deal with Juventus.

McKennie’s contract is up in June 2025 and he has been linked with a move away from the Serie A giants this summer. There’s been interest in the player from the Bundesliga, Premier league ,  and from Fiorentina  but after a turbulent summer, he is favouring extending his stay with Juventus.

Barcelona are desperate to get exits sorted out ahead of the Athletic Bilbao game to ensure they face no issues in registering Dani Olmo. They must also plan for any new signings they want to wrap up before the deadline.

One player who the club has been desperate to get rid of for quite some time now but is unable to is French defender Clement Lenglet. His renewed contract was ex-Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s parting gift to fans before he resigned from his post amid heavy backlash.

The 29-year-old has absolutely no future in Barcelona but the club is unable to get rid of him permanently due to his massive wages. He has spent a couple of seasons on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and then Aston Villa.

Conor Gallagher has thanked Chelsea in an emotional farewell message after his transfer to Atletico Madrid was confirmed.The 24-year-old has left Stamford Bridge

 in a reported £34m move after being threatened with a banishment from the first-team squad, having rejected new contract offers in west London. He was not included in the squad for their Premier League opener against Manchester City at the weekend.

Manchester City celebrates scoring Manchester City’s first goal of the new season.  

It was business as usual for Manchester City in its first match of the English Premier League season, as the defending champion beat Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday.

The Norwegian powered past Chelsea’s defenders before dinking a fine finish over the onrushing goalkeeper to hand the visitors a first-half lead in the 18th minute.

Mateo Kovačić then sealed the win in the 84th minute with a shot from distance, as City got the job done despite lacking some of its usual fluidity.

City manager Pep Guardiola said it was a “privilege and honor” to be in charge of the team, and compared Haaland’s goal-scoring form to two of the greatest players in history.

“They are numbers for [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Guardiola told reporters after the game

In terms of numbers, he is that level. I don’t know how he does it. To score, in 100 games, scored 91 goals in the Premier League, in this country, is unbelievable.”

Haaland was quiet for periods of the match against Chelsea, but sprung into action when he was needed.

His first goal of the new season was the perfect example of how unstoppable he can be, combining physicality

After racing into the box, Haaland held defender Marc Cucurella off with a strong right arm before chipping the ball over the onrushing Robert Sánchez in goal.

Haaland marked his 100th appearance for Manchester City with his 91st goal. 

Unlike many of his teammates, Haaland is coming into his third season at the club off the back of a solid preseason.

While others were busy playing for their countries at the European Championship or Copa America, the 24-year-old was able to enjoy some time off before building his fitness back at City.

I’ve never felt better,” Haaland told the Premier League after Sunday’s match, in an ominous message to the rest of the division.

While City’s supporters can enjoy the team’s first three points of the new season, Chelsea fans will be concerned about how the new campaign will unfold.

The London club seems to be in a state of flux and has bewildered many with its scattergun approach to the transfer market.

The club has over 40 players contracted in its bloated first-team squad and it’s already causing problems in the dressing room for new manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling was left out of the squad for the opening game of the season and had his team release a statement hours before kick-off asking for “clarity on the situation” from the club.

Maresca will look to establish some harmony in his squad before its next match against Wolves on Sunday.

Meanwhile, City will seek to remain unbeaten when it faces newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday.
